Watchs Story

Watches are not only devices which show the time, but also watches are items of fashion. Such juwellery materials as diamonds, silver, gold and platinum are used by watch manufactures in order to make their watches attractive for buyers. The year 1524 is considered to be the beginning of watch manufacturing, which began in France. In 50 years French watchmaker Charles Cousin moved to Geneva, Switzerland. In 13 years he got Swiss citizenship. In that time watch manufacturing began to develop, watches were mostly considered as jewel and they were not available for general public. Charles Cousin organized guild of watchmakers in Geneva and it was the time when Swiss watches became popular. But it is normal that in those times watches didn’t have such attractive look as modern watches have. In the years 1600-1700 some technical changes happened in the sphere of watch-making. Although watches still were more like jewellery. The following watches became available – pendulum watches and pocket watches. Before pendulum watches were worn on the neck, but when English king Charles II introduced long waistcoats, it became popular to carry watches in pockets. In 1800-ies a lot of watch companies appeared and among them it is worth to mention Croton Watch Company. It was founded in 1878. It exists till nowadays and it is famous all over the world by its classic watches.
